As part of an ongoing initiative aimed at combating dubious Employee Retention Credit (ERC) claims, the Internal Revenue Service today launched a new Voluntary Disclosure Program to help businesses who want to pay back the money they received after filing ERC claims in error.

In a major step to help people who owe back taxes, the Internal Revenue Service today announced new penalty relief for approximately 4.7 million individuals, businesses and tax-exempt organizations that were not sent automated collection reminder notices during the pandemic.

Florida House and Senate members returned to Tallahassee this week for their sixth Interim Committee Week. This is the final week for committee meetings before the start of the 2024 Session. This week, more bills were placed on the agenda and began to move forward through committees.
Advocacy Alert: FICPA priority bill filed in the Florida Senate

Sen. Joe Gruters on Thursday filed Senate Bill 954 - Certified Public Accountants in the Florida Senate. This bill – which is among the FICPA’s 2024 legislative priorities – creates a new “retired status” license category for CPAs. This is the companion bill to House Bill 813 - Certified Public Accountants, filed by Rep. Mike Caruso on Monday. The bills are identical.

News: IRS mailing 20,000 ERC disallowance letters; more action and voluntary disclosure program coming

As part of continuing efforts to combat dubious Employee Retention Credit (ERC) claims, the Internal Revenue Service is sending an initial round of more than 20,000 letters to taxpayers notifying them of disallowed ERC claims. IRS is disallowing claims to entities that did not exist or did not have paid employees during the period of eligibility to prevent improper ERC payments from being made to ineligible entities.
FinCEN extends deadline for companies created or registered in 2024 to file Beneficial Ownership Information reports

Reporting companies created or registered in 2024 will have 90 calendar days from the date of receiving actual or public notice of their creation or registration becoming effective to file their initial BOI reports.
