Marvalene M. King, MBA

Adjunct Faculty
Saint Leo University

Like you, internal controls and process improvement expert Marvalene King has seen the need for businesses to strengthen internal controls and evaluate processes for optimization to achieve business objectives. Does management review accounts? Is access to the accounting system restricted? Are internal controls prioritized? Are there inefficiencies hindering employee productivity? Does internal systems/applications ‘talk’ to each other? Are bottlenecks slowing down processes?

With over two decades of operations, and most notably, every day, in the trenches business experience, unlike many consultants, her viewpoint is profoundly different. Marvalene values and shares with business leaders the importance of communicating and explaining change ‘in advance’ and finding creative ways to include employees in process improvement. When it comes to change communications, employees will want to know ‘what’s in it for me?’

Marvalene, sometimes referred by business leaders as a ‘problem solver’ and ‘solutions expert’ for her ability to identify deficiencies, analyze, and synthesize data, which helped mitigate risk for businesses, is known for her fresh creative approach to managing projects and expertise in shaping productive relationships with business leaders and all stakeholders, and connecting with them on an individual level.

Her successes include: (a) streamlined and enhanced digital signage posting process, which significantly reduced posting time-frames by 90%; (b) Project Manager and Lead for county agency Budget System Migration and Banking Institution Implementation – managed and evaluated systems and related procedures for adequacy of internal control environment; (c) redesigned Excel application file – consolidated data for Realized Capital Gains/Losses and Variable Interest Entities footnote disclosure to ensure NAIC reporting requirements; (d) Team Lead for one full lifecycle JD Edwards-Xe implementation – converted to new accounts payable and GL accounting system through testing and deployment, which increased discount savings; (e) Project Manager – implemented process improvement initiatives that resulted in accurate processing of $7 million of accounts payable invoices within a 6-week period.
