National Health Care Update

Time: Tuesday 8:10am - 9:00am Credits: 1 TB

Mr. Rasmussen has worked in politics and health policy in Washington for 20 years, half of that in Congress, half as a health care lobbyist. This presentation will examine the current political situation in Washington and how that impacts legislative and regulatory policy in the health field. Specifically, legislation impacting surprise medical bills, drug pricing, Medicaid DSH, site neutral payment, as well as others that become timely. Regulatory impacts will also be covered, including MFAR, price transparency proposals, and outpatient payment.

Common Mistakes Hospitals Make with Debt and How to Avoid Them

Time: Tuesday 9:00am - 9:50am Credits: 1 TB

Learn the most common mistakes not-for-profit hospitals and health systems make when issuing new debt, refunding existing debt, and managing existing debt portfolio.  These included related areas such as rating agencies, bond holders, and swaps.  Hear best practices through real life situations and anecdotes drawn from experience as an independent registered municipal advisor working with hospitals around the nation.

Forensic Accounting in Health Care:The Business TSA: Protecting Your Organization Through Vendor Credentialing

Time: Tuesday 10:00am - 10:50am Credits: 1 AA

We are all frustrated, but appreciate the TSA process at our airports. However, who among us doesn't feel safer because of it or would fly without the process? Screening is critical in business as well. We do background checks on employees before we hire them, but what do you know about the vendors we pay, who walk the halls of our healthcare systems and interact with our patients? Are they on a sanctions list, are they criminals, do they have undisclosed relationships that result in conflicts of interest, are they shell companies? During this session we will discuss best practices and what can happen if you don't know you vendors. Buyer beware!

Innovative Cloud-Based Solutions for Health Care Organizations

Time: Tuesday 10:50am - 11:40am Credits: 1 TB

In this session we will explore two innovative solutions healthcare organizations should consider. The first is really a platform innovation; Microsoft has created a bundled solution called (perhaps confusingly) Microsoft 365. It bundles security applications together with your Office 365 subscriptions. Moreover, it includes Windows 10 for your laptops and other computing devices. Together, you can now secure all your devices, including phones, with a common set of tools. Security and Compliance, along with Privacy, is perhaps the most important consideration for healthcare organizations.  Because such a large number of healthcare organizations are already using Microsoft Tools, it is important to know what these bundled tools can do.  Secondly, we will look at the new-breed of process automation tools that can move data and content from one disparate system to another when no Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) exist.  Known as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), these tools mimic human activities to automate common manual processes.  These tools can significantly reduce the time it takes to move data between systems, reduce errors, and allow you to redeploy your human capital to more productive tasks.

The Emerging Business of Cannabis

Time: Tuesday 12:40pm - 1:30pm Credits: 1 TB

The legalization of cannabis has created a multitude of business opportunities, but it has also created many questions and uncertainties for professionals advising businesses and patients. With so much legal grey area it gets difficult to navigate through this industry. Learn how experts will equip you with the essential skills you need to effectively operate in the cannabis industry, whether you are an entrepreneur, attorney, accountant or doctor.

Telehealth: A Key Driver to Transform Healthcare Value and Consumerism

Time: Tuesday 1:30pm - 2:20Pm Credits: 1 TB

Telehealth is rapidly expanding both across the nation and globally, as it provides access to patient centric quality care, improves patient outcomes and reduces spending. Telehealth services are able to provide access to continuous patient care at the right place and time, 24/7, and patients enjoy its convenience and accessibility. Telehealth is at the forefront of today’s healthcare, and it is rapidly transforming the way traditional healthcare delivery is provided. Telehealth and virtual care is evolving at a rapid pace and is facilitating changes in reimbursement and policy.

Hear how this joint venture executed not only without a single lay-off but expanded the workforce. The Role of Private Equity in The Private Practice of Medicine

Time: Wednesday 2:30pm - 3:20pm Credits: 1 TB

Independent physicians and physician practices are facing several new challenges with regard to the practice of medicine as follows:
*Should they remain independent and, if so, how will they compete for patients, reimbursement dollars and professional, clinical and administrative staff?
*Should they consider becoming part of something larger? Examples are hospital or health system employees; merging into a larger specialty or multi-specialty group; forming one's own larger group of specialties.
*Consistent with same, consider one's own personal and financial professional practice exit strategy.
There are many variations and we will explore as many as possible during the presentation.
