Join the Florida Institute of CPAs for our first in a series local “Legislative Town Hall”. As part of our ongoing mission to inform members on the issues impacting CPAs and the citizens of our state, we will be hosting one-on-one virtual Town Halls across the state with local lawmakers to bring you the most up-to-date public policy and political information coming out of Tallahassee.
During each session, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with state lawmakers on the issues of the day.

Florida Senator Joe Gruthers – District 23
Senator Joe Gruters is a CPA and fourth generation Sarasotan representing parts of Manatee and Sarasota Counties in Senate District 23. His great grandfather William Hobson moved the family to Sarasota in 1922 to serve as the chief tent maker for Ringling Circus.
Joe graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1996 and is a graduate of both the Florida State University (undergraduate degree) and the University of South Florida (Masters in Business Administration, MBA).
In addition to serving in the Florida Senate, Joe currently serves as the Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. For the last 20 years he has been working as a community activist serving in numerous roles including having served as Congressman Vern Buchanan’s Campaign Manager, as President of the Young Republicans, as Vice Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida and as the Chairman of the Republican Party of Sarasota County, a post which he has held longer than any other Chairman in Sarasota County’s history. Joe also Co-Chaired the Donald J. Trump campaign for President here in Florida and served as the Co-Chairman of the 2016 RNC Platform Committee of Restoring the American Dream.
Joe is an active member of the community and local government. Joe previously served as the Chairman of the Sarasota County Planning Commission, on the Board of Directors for the Florida Sports Foundation and served on the Executive Board and as Treasurer for the Sarasota Humane Society. He also previously served on the Board of Trustees for Florida State University where he Chaired the Finance and Audit Committee.
Joe is married to Sydney and they have three children, Spencer and Jack and Elle.
