424 – Accounting Careers and Education Committee

Provide knowledge on accounting career opportunities to support student success and foster relations between colleges and universities through creative and effective outreach initiatives. Develop accounting career programs to attract college students to become Certified Public Accountants. Develop programs to support accounting educators with career development, academia needs and interaction with CPA professionals. Provide resources to foster relationships between educators and practitioners.

Commitment level: One meeting and two conference calls.

107 – Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee

Study, review and comment on outstanding exposure drafts issued by various professional-standard-setting bodies.

260 – Business Technology Committee

Provide Florida CPAs with knowledge about technology and the tools available to enhance their practice and assist their clients. Prepare articles for Florida CPA Today Magazine and the FICPA website.

121 – CIRA Committee

Plan and present a two-day conference alternating between Fort Lauderdale and Orlando that assists members in becoming more technically proficient in accounting, tax, consultation and certain operational matters related to Florida’s CIRA industry by sharing valuable, timely information. Submit legislative policy recommendations to the State Legislative Policy Committee, review pending legislation affecting CIRAs and provide comments to appropriate entities, as necessary. In November or December, the committee holds a meeting with the Department of Business and Professions liaisons alternating between Ft. Lauderdale and Tallahassee.

Plan and present a two-day conference held in Tampa with a focus on business acumen, business challenges and proficiency in accounting and tax matters related to Florida’s industry.  Portions of this conference are simulcast.

141 – Editorial Committee (Florida CPA Today Magazine)

Suggest topics and issues affecting Florida’s accounting profession for publication in Florida CPA Today Magazine. Perform editorial reviews and provide guidance to article authors. The Editorial Committee may or may not have vacancies from year to year. If interested in serving, contact the staff liaison listed below.

142 – Employee Benefits Conference Committee

Plan and present the Employee Benefits Flex Track at the Mega CPE Conference in Orlando.

155 – Federal Taxation Committee

Monitor federal tax activity and provide comments to appropriate entities, as necessary. Work with the IRS to plan agendas and presentations for programs such as the liaison meeting. Prepare the Legislator’s Tax Guide and write articles for Florida CPA Today Magazine and the FICPA website.

165 – Florida Gulf Coast University Accounting and Tax Conference Committee

Plan and present a two-day conference in Fort Myers, with a focus on hot topics, trends and updates.

172 – Florida State University Accounting Conference Committee

Plan and present a two-day conference at Florida State University in Tallahassee. Portions of this conference are livestreamed.

178 – Health Care Industry Conference Committee

Plan and present a two-day conference in Orlando, with a focus on CPAs working within the scope of health care, including, but not limited to, physician practice management, managed care and health plans. Portions of this conference are livestreamed.  Exhibit component.

181 – International Taxation Committee

235 – Not-For-Profit Organizations Conference Committee

103 – Florida CPA Summit Committee

Recommends sessions and speakers in the areas of hot topics. Formerly, the Accounting and Business Show, this two-day event is designed to meet the specific needs of South Florida CPAs and other finance professionals. Portions of the conference will be live streamed. One planning call, followed by one-on-one committee member discussion. Exhibit and Learning Lab components.

Commitment level: All meetings are conducted online or via conference call.

318 – State Legislative Policy Committee

Discuss revisions to Florida accountancy laws and rules, develop proposed legislative policies, coordinate with FICPA committees on potential legislative issues and review pending legislation affecting the CPA profession. Prepare summaries for legislative positions and submit recommendations for the legislative agenda for the Executive Committee and Board of Governors’ consideration.

292 – State and Local Government Committee

Plan and present the two-day State and Local Government Accounting Conference in Orlando, enhance knowledge and promote excellence among members interested in state and local government accounting, auditing and other related issues. This conference is simulcast.

322 – State Tax Committee

Plan and present the State Tax Flex Track at the Mega CPE Conference held in Orlando and provide state taxation professionals with opportunities for knowledge sharing, professional development and advocacy on Florida-specific tax issues. In November or December, the committee holds a meeting with the Department of Revenue liaisons in Tallahassee. Submit legislative policy recommendations to the State Legislative Policy Committee, review pending legislation affecting State Tax and provide comments to appropriate entities, as necessary.

189 – Valuation, Forensic Accounting and Litigation Services Committee

Plan and present a two-day conference in Fort Lauderdale, with a focus on all areas of valuation, forensic accounting and litigation services.  Portions of this conference are livestreamed.

450 – Women in Leadership Committee

Develop, promote and recognize women in accounting through professional development and mentoring. Attend one in-person meeting; plan and attend the Women in Leadership Summit and participate in at least one subcommittee from the list below.

428 – Young CPAs Committee

Promote young CPA participation by coordinating social, educational and philanthropic activities in local chapter areas and throughout the state with outreach to other young CPAs, local professionals and accounting students. Plan, promote and participate in a CPA Day of Service event in local areas. Provide feedback for the Emerging Leaders Program.

FICPA Scholarship Foundation

Scholarship Foundation Board of Trustees

The mission of the 501(c)(3) Foundation is to provide scholarships to accounting students in the state of Florida. We encourage FICPA members to become active in fundraising, events and marketing to help provide scholarships by serving a one-year term on a Foundation Committee. Foundation Committees are a great way to get connected and give back to the future of our profession. All committees meet via conference call, and members are provided a toll-free phone number to connect to the calls. Committee members are not required to meet in person, but committee members should plan on participating on all conference calls and volunteering at any event or activity planned by the committee.


Members of the following committees will serve for a one-year term.

600 – Endowment and Planned Giving Committee

Manage current Foundation endowments and develop new endowments. Promote planned giving opportunities and the new firm scholarship program. Committee members must have experience and interest in assisting with promoting endowments, planned giving, retirement, bequests, charitable annuities and trusts.

Commitment Level: Quarterly conference calls, as needed.

602 – 1040K Run Committee

Assist with fundraising, marketing and implementing the 1040k Run (5K|10K) held in Miami on or near Tax Day in April (April 17, 2018). Assist with outreach to CPA firms and corporate sponsors of the race.  Must have a passion for running, a willingness to assist with fundraising and an interest in generating scholarship funds for South Florida accounting students. Students volunteers needed for the 1040K races. Please contact Liaison Jan Dobson for more information.

603 – Family Retreat Committee

Assist with fundraising, marketing and implementation of the Family Retreat and Golf Tournament held at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo the last weekend in July. Promote a family-oriented networking event in order to raise scholarship funds for accounting students. Assist with outreach to CPA firms and corporate sponsors of the retreat and volunteer during the event.

Commitment Level: Bi-monthly conference calls, as needed, and volunteering at the event.

604 – Suncoast Scramble Golf Tournament Committee

Assist with fundraising, marketing and implementation of the annual golf tournament held in Oldsmar on the first Friday in May.  Must have an interest in golf and/or raising money for student scholarships. Promote sponsorship and player opportunities to generate scholarship funds for accounting students. Assist with outreach to CPA firms and corporate sponsors of the golf tournament.
